Around the world, Catholic Relief Services is partnering with USAID to provide life-saving assistance to our most vulnerable brothers and sisters. How can you join them? By urging your members of Congress to respond to their needs and prevent further devastation around the world by providing international assistance to poverty-reducing programs. Congress is poised to pass another continuing resolution to fund the government through March 11. By not passing the 2022 federal budget, Congress risks losing the additional $4 billion proposed for poverty-reducing accounts. We must take new action now to make sure that everyone has the means to stay safe and healthy and thrive. Click above to learn moer.
"It's crunch time! The committee hearing for the assisted suicide expansion bill (ESHB 1141) will be happening this Friday at 8 AM. Join the Washington State Bishops in calling on our senators to oppose the expansion of assisted suicide, House Bill 1141 (HB 1141). This bill would loosen important safeguards in the existing physician assisted suicide law. This bill shortens the waiting period from 15 days to just 3 to wait between making a request and receiving a lethal prescription. The 3 days would be fully waivable if they are expected to die sooner. The bill broadens the definition of a "qualified medical provider" who can make a diagnosis and prescribe lethal medication. Two physicians are no longer required to diagnose a patient. The 72 hour wait time may even be waived if the "qualified medical provider" deems that a patient has less than 72 hours to live. HB 1141 also permits assisted suicide prescriptions to be delivered via the mail. We especially need people to contact their senators if they sit on the Committee on Health and Long Term Care, as they are participating in a hearing on this bill on Friday.
