Dear Friends, Afghanistan might not be in the news again, but Afghan refugees still need your help. It's almost been two years since the United States completed its withdrawal from Afghanistan. Since then, Afghans have become part of their respective communities all throughout the country. While their journey has been tragic, many are restarting their careers and have been fully resettled, often with the help of Afghan Americans like myself. But, we need the United States to ensure our new Afghan neighbors don’t live in legal limbo. If Congress doesn’t act, their work authorizations will expire and many will fall through the crack. In the past, America has passed adjustment acts for Vietnamese, Iraqi and other refugee populations. All we are asking Congress to do is to do the same for our Afghan newcomers. If not, they will be forced to enter a burdensome, traumatic and costly asylum process that will take years and years. Afghan refugees deserve better than that. Help call on Congress to pass the Afghan Adjustment Act. How?
These people stood by America for twenty years. All we ask is that America does the same in a time of need. It’s the least they deserve. With gratitude, Lida Azim Community Organizer with Afghans For A Better Tomorrow Follow us on Twitter and Instagram |
