"Dear Supporters of WHEEL/Mary’s Place Women in Black:
From a new list of homeless deaths provided by the King County Medical Examiners and Health Care for the Homeless, Women in Black learned that two more homeless people died outside of shelter in September. At noon Wednesday, October 14th, at the Seattle Justice Center (5th/Cherry), we’ll stand to honor and remember:
**Ronald Hopkins, 53, who died outside in Kent on 9/1; the cause of his death is pending.
**Christopher Green, 23, who died near I-5 at the Dearborn exit on 9/9; the cause of his death is also pending.
We will dedicate this vigil to the memories of Michael D. King, beloved Real Change vendor who died recently, and Kenny Lofton, beloved 1811 Eastlake resident who died recently.
Friends, at least 48 homeless people have died outside or by violence already this year in our County. At least 9 (possibly 10) homeless people have been murdered, and 11 women have died outside/by violence.
These hard horrible statistics bear witness to the continuing, devastating crisis of homelessness, and remain heartbreakingly unprecedented. At this point, we are sure to far exceed the highest annual total of outdoor/violent deaths in the history of Women in Black.
PLEASE JOIN US as we cry out for justice and shelter."
