Growing Food in Burkina Faso
Each week, the CRS Rice Bowl program focuses on a developing country, giving us the chance to learn about people and places we might not otherwise encounter. This week’s featured country is Burkina Faso, a small nation located in West Africa. In Burkina Faso, 80% of the population is farmers. Frequent droughts make it difficult to produce enough food for the entire year. Often, farmers can only grow enough to feed their families for seven months. The rest of the year is called “the hungry season.” This week, we pray for families in Burkina Faso and give to CRS Rice Bowl to help small-scale farmers. To learn more about Burkina Faso, visit the CRS website to watch a short video about the country: http://www.crsricebowl.org/stories-of-hope/
. As part of your Lenten practice this year, consider using the Rice Bowl calendar’s daily reflections and activities to add 5 minutes of prayer to your day.
