Join Fr. Jack and staff for the CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, October 4th as we walk with other congregations to end hunger around the world. The walk starts at 1pm (registration at 12:30pm) at Alki UCC (6115 SW Hinds, 98116). The walk is approximately 5K…close to the average distance a woman has to walk to get water in many places in Africa and Asia. All are invited to join us. Strollers, wheelchairs, pets-on-leash all welcome!
To register online with our team or to donate to the walk, click here. You can join our team there and set up a donor page. Walkers are asked to get donations to support their walk. This is a little like “Rice Bowl with legs”. Just like Rice Bowl, 75% of the money you raise goes to overseas hunger alleviation projects while 25% stays local to fight hunger at home (Our walk benefits both the White Center and West Seattle Food Banks). Church World Service organizes the CROP Walk but they partner with Catholic Relief Services in their efforts so donors can request that donations go to CRS if they prefer. If you collect actual checks, they can write “Catholic Relief Services” in the memo line. On the first page of the online donation form you can type "Catholic Relief Services" into the “Alternate agency” field/box.
Last year's West Seattle CROP Hunger walk raised over $18,000 for hunger initiatives around the world, which gave Church World Service (CWS) the financial flexibility to connect children fleeing Central America to food sources, support victims of Tropical Storm Pam in Vanuatu, improve an unfiltered well in the Thanh Cong commune in Vietnam, and respond rapidly to Nepal’s devastating earthquake, in addition to several other projects around the world. To catch a glimpse of the impact walkers make, check out CWS’ key projects in 2014-2015 as detailed on NGO Aid Map! You can also learn more by viewing this poignant video demonstrating the impacts of just one CWS sponsored water project in Kenya. Thank you for the investments you’ve already made around the world and at home!
