A message from WHEEL:
WHEEL/Mary’s Place Women in Black and The Church Council of Greater Seattle invite you to a Cleansing Ritual of Healing and Meditative Walk on the Autumn Equinox to “Restore the Balance of Justice.” This event is on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23rd, and begins with a Gathering and Cleansing Ritual at 5:30 PM under the Magnolia Bridge (at W Garfield), the site of the brutal murder of a beloved homeless woman, Stacey Davis. After the Ritual, we’ll do a Silent, Meditative Walk due North to W Bertona/17th W, site of the planned new SHARE/WHEEL Interbay Encampment. A Groundblessing of New Campsite will occur at sunset, 7:05 PM.
Background: This year has been horribly hard in the King County homeless community: At least 45 homeless people have died outside or by violence. Ten people (five women, five men) have been murdered. In August, a beloved and sweet homeless woman named Stacey Davis was beaten to death in the Interbay neighborhood, under the Magnolia Bridge. At least 600 homeless women, men and children have died outside or by violence in King County since the year 2000.
Without Shelter, People Die. More shelters and organized encampments are planned, and are desperately needed.
September 23rd is the Fall Equinox, when day and night are in equal balance. Please join Women in Black and the Church Council of Greater Seattle as we attempt to restore the balance of justice in the world.
Women and men are welcome!
