What does our faith have to do with political action and how can we learn to be more effective advocates?
, February 28th, we'll gather with others from
and the 34th District to learn about
social teaching, the connection to advocacy, the current budget issues and poverty initiatives being debated in
, and how we can add our voice to the discussion.
The day will start with a reflection by Fr. Jack Walmesley about
social teaching and the call to political involvement. Next up is
, lobbyist for the
Washington State Catholic Conference
, who will brief us on budget issues affecting people living in poverty in our state. We'll have time to reflect on what we've heard, share ideas and ask questions. Representative Cody from the 34th District will also be here to listen to our comments and respond. We'll finish the day with some ideas about how to get involved and raise our voices for those in need in our community.
This is especially great preparation for Catholic Advocacy Day, coming up on March 26th.
This event is sponsored by the
Dialogue for Justice
, St. Joseph, St. James,

, Holy Rosary, Christ Our Hope,
Our Lady of Guadalupe
. It is also being planned in collaboration with Catholic Community Services.
