Urge your legislators to create a "Circle of Protection" around international humanitarian and development assistance, food aid, affordable housing, and other programs that protect the life and dignity of vulnerable people and families living in poverty.
From the Washington State Catholic Conference, the public policy voice of the Washington State Bishops:
"
Pope Francis visits the nation's capital as Congress faces important decisions on spending priorities. Despite a refugee crisis gripping the world and persistently high poverty in this country, Congress struggles to find the political will to sufficiently fund effective antipoverty programs.
The Catholic Bishops of the United States continue to join with over 65 other Christian groups in a "Circle of Protection" around federal budget programs that serve poor and vulnerable people at home and abroad. Every budget decision should protect human life and dignity. Federal programs that ensure human needs are met should be protected and strengthened.
Contact your U.S. Representative and U.S. Senators and urge a 'Circle of Protection' around international humanitarian and development assistance, food aid, affordable housing, and other programs that protect the life and dignity of poor and vulnerable people and families.
Click here and urge them to protect antipoverty programs."
