Advocate: Support Housing and Help End Homelessness

The regular legislative session ended two weeks ago, but legislators are back in Olympia for a special session. The state House & Senate are required to pass a budget, and now is the time to make sure they fund programs to help prevent and end homelessness!

The House & Senate budgets are very different from one another, and we need all of our legislators to hear loud and clear that the cuts to affordable housing and homelessness prevention programs in the Senate budget are unacceptable. If the final budget mirrors the Senate budget, every affordable housing and homelessness prevention program would see cuts: Emergency shelters, youth shelters, domestic violence shelters, rent assistance, and more would be cut by 50%, and the Housing & Essential Needs program would be cut by 57%. These cuts would put more people on the streets while offering fewer resources to help those who are already homeless.

We must urge our legislators to invest in our communities by investing in affordable housing and homelessness prevention programs, and by finding ways to increase revenue instead of cutting programs. Send a message today!
