Action Alert: Help Provide Access to Higher Education
March1,2013
by Jennifer Ibach
The Washington State House Committee on Higher Education heard HB 1817, which would allow access to financial assistance for higher education for certain immigrant students. These students, commonly called DREAMERS, who entered the United States with their parents as young children and have qualified for the Federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status would be eligible for the college bound scholarships and state need grant programs. HB 1817 would allow DACA qualified students, who meet specific criteria, to seek financial aid for higher education in Washington State.
Believing in the dignity of every human person, WSCC supports granting DACA qualified students the opportunity to receive a higher education. This would enable young immigrants to contribute their service and talents to our state.
